In the land of Pisco, we reached Tasting No. 250

On Saturday, June 22nd, the Peruvian Association of Tasters held Tasting No. 250, remembering that blind tastings have been held twice a month since January 2008. All tastings are documented on the blog nochesdecata.blogspot.com, and we have tasted over 1000 Piscos. We're read in more than 100 countries around the world, and it is truly an honor and a pleasure for us to invite Producers, Winemakers, Engineers, Bartenders, Tasters, Chefs, Sommeliers, Historians, Teachers, Communicators, Sommelier students, Pisco lovers, enthusiasts, to this celebration of our National Cultural Heritage, "Pisco." We thank them all for their participation.

For this event, we decided to conduct a commented tasting of Piscos Italia (grape Italy), from the 5 regions that have the Pisco Appelation of Origin, which we called "Pisco 5 Regions." Remembering that the selected Piscos had not been previously evaluated by the Judges of the Panel as in other occasions.

Piscos that participated in Tasting No. 250:
From Tacna, Cuneo 43% vol.
From Moquegua, El Mocho 42% vol.
From Arequipa, Costumbres 42% vol.
From Ica, Cholo Matías 41% vol.
From Lima, Don Alberto 43% vol.

As I have already mentioned, the Italia grape (white), is one of the most difficult to work with, it's
very delicate, and one must take care of the entire process from the vineyards through the winery, fermentation & distillation. Achieving an Italia without defects is a masterpiece that only great distillers can achieve, thanks to them, cheers!

The 5 Piscos were excellent! each one showing its typicality, characteristics according to the grape variety from where it comes, the delicious Italia grape, each master distiller from each of the 5 Pisco regions offering us their own creation, the correct alcohols, without attacking our nose, without a spicy taste in the mouth, unctuous, silky, at all times the presence of the grape, some with explosive aromas of tropical fruits, pineapple, passion fruit, white flowers, jasmine, citrus, peel, lime skin, mandarin, and grapefruit, sweet, honey, others more subtle delight us with infusions, lemon verbena, anise, blonde raisins, in short, the Italias will always show us their aromatic richness, we insist, this would not be possible without the participation and above all the professionalism of our master distillers.

Likewise, among the attendees, we had guests from Tacna, Moquegua, Arequipa, Ica & Lima, "the 5 Pisco regions," so it was an opportunity to have an enriching conversation about winemaking, history, gastronomy, and Pisco production, each one offering their knowledge to make this event unforgettable.

The tasting was accompanied by snacks made by our Associate Specialist Pastry Chef and Pisco Taster, Sommelier, Diana Arbulu: sweet corn pie in the style of Tacna, pecan toffee, guargüeros with manjar blanco (a sweet caramel-like spread made with milk and sugar), chocolate fingers with suspiro a la limeña (a traditional Peruvian dessert made with caramel and meringue).

We only have to wait for our next event, the Pisco Tasting 1500 and/or Tasting No. 300, whichever comes first. Enjoy Pisco responsibly.

Til next time!
